The 2019 Sportspick AFL Super Tipper National competition was hotly contested and has concluded with a runaway winner as one tipper stood alone at the top of the leaderboard to take home the $20000 1st prize!
Congratulations to SHERWIN ZUIDEMA from THE CLAYTON HOTEL VIC who tipped the 8 winners in the final home and away round to finish four points clear of the pack on 146 correct tips for the 2019 AFL Super Tipper comp!
In 2018 you needed 152 points to finish on top of the leaderboard so 146 correct tips would have seen you barely scrape into the top 500 tippers (but still would be good enough to cruise to victory in the Sportspick office tipping comp!)
Congratulations also to Adrian Denham (The Foundry Hotel Complex, Bendigo VIC), Dan Muldowney (Warragul Sporting Social Club, Warragul VIC), Kerri Clark (The Grand Terminus Hotel, Bairnsdale VIC) and Simon Hay (Diamond Creek Tavern, Diamond Creek VIC) who all finished tied four points behind in 2nd place.
Shout out to all the Local Venue competition winners and a big thank you to all of the venue "Sportspick Captains" who conduct their local comps throughout the Sportspick venue network.
This year the final round saw the leaderboard stay relatively unchanged with a few of the top 20 tippers playing it aggressive in order to separate themselves from the chasing pack. Many of those sitting just outside the money positions ended up scoring 8 or 9 from 9 but with limited upsets resulting there was no cigar for the ambitious in the end.
Editors note: the leading tipper in Sportspick Head Office finished on 138 points (equal 40th nationally) and investigations continue internally as to how the Comp administrator managed to win the chocolates, so that in itself shows what a great effort 146 correct tips was to take out the National AFL Prize.
If you managed to get 9 from 9 in 3 or more rounds this year you were in select company as only 81 tippers managed that and of those 81 - only 4 tipped the round 4 times.
With the majority of the 2019 major prize winners coming from Victorian venues, Sports Pig once again puts out the challenge to all SA tippers in particular, to dominate in 2020. The Crows and Port Power both failed to make the 8 and this surely affected the final scores for a lot of our SA tippers.
